Directions: Respond to each item in a clear and concise paragraph. Do not copy passages from the lectures or book. Rather, express your own understanding of the material. Do not write anything or everything that comes to mind; instead, try to devise a brief answer that captures the most relevant information.
1. Compare and contrast multidimensional scaling, factor analysis, and k-means clustering. What are the differences, if any, in the kinds of data used? Give an example of the kind of data you might analyze with MDS.
2. What is latent structure and and how do PCA, MDS, or k-means clustering reveal it?
3. Using one of the data frames, conduct a PCA in R and interpret the results.
4. Using one of the data frames, conduct a k-means clustering analysis in R and interpret the results.
5. Give an example of a research question that could be answered with latent structure analysis (PCA, clustering, MDS). Explain why latent structure is relevant.
6. Intrepret the MDS solutions in the network diagrams for my Black Abolitionist study. See the script A Research Example of MDS for the analysis. It will produce graphs for four points in time.
7. Describe the data and methods used in the Shortell article.
8. Summarize the results shown in Table 1 of Shortell.
9. Summarize the results shown in Table 1 in Swedlow & Wickoff.
10. Summarize Figure 2 in Cappell & Guterbach
